Starfield's Modding Prospects Dim as Key Skyrim Modder Bows Out

In the ever-evolving landscape of gaming, anticipation had long been brewing for Bethesda’s starbound odyssey, Starfield. Fans of the legendary Skyrim, a game with a monumental modding legacy boasting near-endless customization, had hoped to channel this same creative spirit into the cosmos. Unfortunately, those hopes took a significant hit recently with the news that a key figure in the modding community has stepped back from a highly anticipated project.

The gaming community was stirred when Robbe Bryssinck, known in the modding world as Cosideci, announced his departure from developing Starfield Together — a mod aimed to bring cooperative play to the single-player space RPG. Bryssinck, a major contributor to the celebrated Skyrim Together mod, initially dived into the task with zeal, successfully transferring much of the requisite code to the new mod. However, after actually playing Starfield, his enthusiasm plummeted.

Bryssinck's candid critique of Starfield spread swiftly, mirroring broader concerns within the player base. His forthright dismissal of the game as "trash" – citing a lack of the immersive and handcrafted experiences synonymous with Bethesda's games – paints a disappointing picture of Starfield's current state. The modder's decision to abandon the project stems from the belief that putting further effort into a game he finds fundamentally lackluster is pointless.

Despite Bryssinck's abrupt exit, he has made a final contribution to the Starfield modding community by releasing his work thus far as open source. This gesture extends an olive branch to any developer brave enough to tackle the challenge of completing Starfield Together. The caveat, however, is clear: completing the mod will be no small feat, demanding a substantial investment of time and effort from whoever takes up the mantle.

The ripples of this development have impacted perceptions of Starfield's modding potential. As conversations unfold on forums and subreddits, the community is left to ponder whether the anticipated "Skyrim in space" can deliver the rich, player-driven expansion it promised. With one of Skyrim Together’s main architects stepping down, the long-term vitality of Starfield's modding scene faces an uncertain future. It seems modders, too, have standards and limits, and not even a game’s universe can change that.
